Patent Attorney

Former Patent Examiner

Former Fortune 500 IP counsel

I'm a Mechanical Engineer, Registered Patent Attorney, and the founder of Newton Law. With Newton Law you get experience from all sides of the patent system — USPTO Examiner, boutique IP firm associate, and decades as Fortune 500 in-house counsel - including litigating patents. I help inventors and startups obtain enforceable patents that stand up in the real world.

Most patent attorneys describe your invention. I protect your market share. Having managed litigation across 6 continents (including China, India, Germany, and the U.S.), I have seen exactly how competitors try to 'design around' a patent to steal your idea without infringing. Most attorneys never see this phase. I lived it for 26 years. And I used it to design around competitor patents.

I put that to work for you and use 'Anticipatory Drafting.' I don't just claim what you built; I claim the variations your competitors will try to build to beat you. This is the difference between a wall plaque and a monopoly.

I spent 7 years inside the USPTO, examining over 300 applications. I know the internal motivations, the quota pressures, and the shortcuts Examiners take. When I write an application, I am writing it for the person sitting in my old chair. I know how to speak their language to get to 'Allowed' faster.

Traditional firms are pressured to bill hours and move on. They draft narrow claims limited to the exact concept you describe. And their Associates writing the applications never see the business consequences. I spent 6 years under that pressure and know it's not what you need to succeed.

I have 25+ years experience as in-house IP counsel at Fortune 500 multi-nationals. Drafting over 300 US applications leading to over 2,000 international counterparts. Litigating my patents on 6 continents. And reviewing product submissions. I know what corporations and PE want to see in a product submission. I work to put you in the best position for your business reality, or for licensing your invention.
