Taylor J. Ross
Founder & Patent Attorney
USPTO Registered Patent Attorney No. 33,342 | Mechanical Engineer
I founded Newton Law to deliver patents that function as serious business assets — providing enforceable exclusivity for licensing, litigation, and competitive advantage.
With experience across every side of the patent system, I offer a unique 360° perspective that most attorneys lack.
Former USPTO Patent Examiner For 7 years, I examined over 400 patent applications. I understand examiner thinking, quota pressures, and shortcuts. I draft applications strategically to speak their language and reach allowance faster.
Fortune 500 IP Counsel Over 25 years managing IP for multinational corporations, I reviewed hundreds of invention submissions, drafted and prosecuted 600+ U.S. applications (leading to 2,000+ international counterparts), and aligned patents with real business goals. I know what corporations and private equity look for in pitches — and how to strengthen your materials.
Global Litigation & Enforcement I’ve personally managed litigation of patents on 6 continents, including against design-around attempts in China, India, Brazil, Mexico, Malaysia, and the U.S. This real-world experience informs "anticipatory drafting": capturing variations upfront to block competitors in the design phase and in court.
As a mechanical engineer, I speak the language of inventors and product developers. I review every invention for utility and cost-effective design patent opportunities.
I have prosecuted utility patents across a wide range of technologies including mechanical devices, medical devices, printing techniques, assembly of electrical devices, construction and drilling equipment, and consumer products. I also bring unusually strong experience in design patents—including display-screen icons—which many overlook despite their lower cost, faster enforcement (often weeks for injunctions in key jurisdictions), and strong protection on online marketplaces that remove infringing listings based on design patents alone.
At Newton Law, you get direct senior attention — no juniors or billable-hour pressure. Your invention and business objectives come first.

About Us
Experience You Need
To negotiate with a Patent Examiner, you want a former Patent Examiner.
To sell your invention to a corporation, you want support from a former in-house counsel.
Your patent application will be written and argued by an attorney with years of Examiner experience, who knows what Examiners want.
To issue a patent ready to enforce, you want an attorney who has enforced patents.
Your design or utility application will be prepared by an attorney who's managed scores of actual court cases to enforce patents in over 12 countries around the world.
Corporations get invention pitches regularly. With over a decade of experience as an in-house counsel reviewing pitches, we can help you assemble a submission that up-front includes the materials corporations care about - but won't bother asking for.
To draft a patent that is an asset, you want an attorney who has avoided competitor patents and dealt with design-around attempts.
Your design or utility application will be prepared by an attorney with 25+ years experience finding ways to design around competitor patents, and fought in court against competitors trying to design around.
